Discrimination in India is increasing day by day, whether it is in terms of education, caste, gender, disability, racism, public sector jobs, the film industry, etc. All should get equal rights and freedom as stated in Article 15 (Prohibits discrimination on religion, caste, race, gender, etc.) and Article 16 (Equal opportunity for everyone in terms of public employment) of the Indian Constitution. We have witnessed so many cases so far, but no changes in society despite such cases. Those who deserve it won't get the recognition needed, but the undeserving do.
"LET'S COME FORWARD AND STOP THIS DISCRIMINATION TOGETHER"
HISTORY:
In 1893, when Mahatma Gandhi was travelling to South Africa to work as a lawyer for an Indian firm, Dada Abdullah and Company, he was thrown out at Pietermaritzburg Railway Station in the name of discrimination. In India, he witnessed caste discrimination, particularly untouchables who were denied basic rights as compared to common people and were treated as low-grade servants.
Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, being a member of the Mahar Caste community, was also considered untouchable and faced many challenges in education being a member of a low caste.
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (APJ Abdul Kalam), former Indian President, faced social discrimination; being a person from the Muslim community, he was told to sit at the last bench of the class during his school days, separating him from his friends and classmates.
CHANGES TO REDUCE DESCRIMINATION TO SOME EXTENT:
- Articles 15 and 16 should be made mandatory for all; strict action should be imposed on those who violate these articles.
- Proper Education based on discrimination from the grassroots should be made compulsory so that the upcoming generation will embark on the new journey of life without discrimination.
- Awareness Campaigns should be run effectively throughout the country.
- Prohibiting schools, colleges, the public job sector, etc., from giving jobs and admission based on the religion they belong to.
- Media should be actively involved in eradicating discrimination by showing campaigns, posters, measures to be taken against discrimination, etc.
- Educational Institutions should keep on emphasizing the core concepts, advantages, and disadvantages of discrimination so that the future generation will be aware of discrimination very well.
- Authorized personnel should be appointed in the respective zones so that the public will be forced to stop discrimination in school, college, public sector jobs, etc.
- Severe punishments should be imposed on those who do not follow such measures towards discrimination, as it says, "The easier the punishment easier to commit a crime".
